I started writing this when it was still winter, but here it is April 22nd and I am just now finishing. So here is my winter update…in the spring.
The big news from me is that Lindsey and I moved permanently to Boulder, CO in February. Lindsey and her previous coach, Margie Shapiro, decided to part ways at the end of 2012 so she set out on finding a new coach. The eventual decision for her was to come out to the Mecca of triathlon to start working with Grant Holicky and the APEX coaching group. Lots of very successful athletes train in this group so she has plenty of training partners and much to aspire to. And here I am again living in my absolute favorite place in the world – Colorado!
It might as well still be winter here as like clockwork every Monday for the past four or five weeks we get a big layer of snow. Groceries stores pack with people as dark clouds roll in (as if we will wake up Tuesday morning unable to open our front doors). I don’t understand this – I’m from Florida and even I drive around in the snow. Anyways, the sun usually comes out on Wednesday, the snow melts by Friday, and I’m out riding my bike in the mountains on the weekend. Sunday night rolls around and it’s time to set the trainer up again. Repeat.
Despite the up-and-down weather, training is going well out here (other than the bike crash in Brazil that kept me out of the water for four weeks). My first individual race of the season is coming up this weekend at the Memorial Hermann Kemah Triathlon in Texas, and then it really gets going with St. George 70.3 US Championships the following weekend. I put up a tentative race schedule here.
